Profile of Mr. Harry Greives:

Mr. Greivies maintains that his genealogy is linked to the Bassa Tribe, in Grand Bassa County, Liberia, although has no bearing on him. But on the contrary, sources close to him in New York, confides that he is a derivative of the Americo Liberian Hegemony. In short, a byproduct of the self proclaimed aristocratic class that ruled Liberia oppressively up to the time of the Samuel Doe coupe in 1980.

He is an arrogant and pompous individual who proud him self as being one of the architects of the Civil Crisis that led to the destruction of the Country with out any remorse. At the recent TRC Hearing, he went thus, “We had to act in ousting the Dictatorial Regime of the late Samuel Doe”. In short he has been one of the crusaders for the reemergence of the Congo Empire.

He has solid historical ties with President Sirleaf as far back the pre-war era which he exploits at the detriment of the President and the nation as a whole with impunity. He manifests his untouchable nature by displaying mal-administrative tendencies at the work place against all norms. In short, upon shouldering responsibility as Managing Director of the entity, he disregarded the amenability law plus checks and balance component of the corporation by refusing to have a Deputy, until recently following mounting pressures from Liberians and our International partners, especially, the US and the EU.

As a manifestation of blind arrogance, he had maintained following lambasting by some law makers regarding his stance, especially, from Representative Dusty Wolokollie, he said that the entity was the private domain, of “him self, President Sirleaf, and Senator Cletus Wotorson”. He argues further that they were the incorporators which give them exclusive rights in determining the administrative day to day running of the entity. As naïve as the argument may appear he stood by same and took unilateral decisions under the pretext of down and right sizing at the corporation. Many of the competent men and women of the corporation who didn’t sing to the rhythm of his song were fired.

Graced by good will gestures, the nation was the recipient of thousands of barrel of crude oil under a special arrangement between the Nigeria and Liberia Government respectively, only for same to be misdirected. Amidst claims and counter claims regarding the deal it became conclusive that he unearth the contractual agreement regarding the deal, but vehemently refused up to the present. Despite call for transparency and accountability regarding the transaction and the profitability to the nation, he remains adamant.

In the wake of the scandal, when human rights activists and journalist went to ascertain the true nature of the deal he attempted to bribe them by giving them sealed envelopes which back fired on him to his amazement. He is also noted to have gone on the rampage in bribing some members of the Legislature that is still under investigation.

Why Was He Dismissed?

As you may be aware during the dying days of the “Bryant Government” there became the need to revamp the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Corporation (LPRC) under a contractual “Fourteen million dollars” agreement which was sealed and rectified by the transitional Government. However, upon assuming power he nullified the agreement with out legal backing. As a result the entity was sued for millions of dollar that are yet to be paid.

Even before the inks had dried on the old controversy, and in the wake of greed for kick back he went about to sign a new dubious twenty four million dollars “Zakeham deal” that has raised eye brows about the amount involves. You can see the lapsed between this deal and the previous one signed by his predecessor.

In the wake of the flaws, the House of Representative refuses to rectify the agreement which puts the Government in a precarious situation with another legal action imminent. Amidst the controversy Mr. Aloysius Jappah one of the close confidants of the President was embroiled in an extortion attempt on Mr. Grevies that led to his dismissal. The purported audio hears Mr. Jappah requesting for “Three Hundred Thousands dollars” for the Presidential Committee set up in order to facilitate the deal. This revelation brought considerable embarrassment on the Government. Political pundits are concerned about the intents of Mr. Grevies realizing that he is the master of malpractices.

Amidst public outrage, the Justice Ministry was told investigate the matter follow by a separate Committee set up to thoroughly gauge the contract which findings were all damaging, manifesting the lack of transparency necessitating his dismissal. We are told reliably that he had been given the option of exiting quietly by resigning, but refused which followed his dismissal.

Dividend for President Sirleaf:

This President image had been shattered in recent times for her lack of will power in dealing with her inner staffs accused of corruption, with Mr. Grevies being one of the culprits. Until the recent action by this President her reputation was being tarnished and creditability questioned. I salute her for the heroic action which symbolizes that there may be a reversal of the “Lack of will Power syndrome” that her critics equate her with. More besides, this action is a glaring indication that this President has been reawakened from the state of political abeyance.

Conclusion:

Once again, this is the beginning of the dawn of a new era in the anal of our history in post war Liberia. While it is true that we applaud the decision we will hold her both morally and legally accountable if she fails to have him and others perpetrators of financial crimes prosecuted. Congratulation Madam President.

INTRODUCTION

It is often said that late is better than never, especially for a President considered by her critics as passive when it comes to effecting decisions against members of his kitchen cabinets considered as morally inept, financially corruptible and administratively malfeasance. Equitability of this analogy befits no other than Mr. Harry Greeive, Managing Director of the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC), who was  unceremoniously
dismissed by President Sirleaf, in the wake of the see saw battle regarding a contractual agreement to revamp the entity complex, a decision long overdue despite tangle reasons for culpability in malpractices. What led to his dismissal?
